Liverpool kicked off their Premier League title defense with a wild 4-2 win over Bournemouth, in a game that swung from dominant to tense to emphatic.
New signing Hugo Ekitike opened his league account in the 37th minute, and Cody Gakpo made it 2-0 just after the break. But Bournemouth didn’t fold. Antoine Semenyo struck twice (64’, 76’) to stun Anfield and level the match.
With the momentum slipping, Liverpool turned to their bench—and it paid off. Federico Chiesa fired in the go-ahead goal in the 89th minute, and Mo Salah sealed it in stoppage time.
The match was briefly halted earlier when Semenyo reported racist abuse from a spectator. Authorities are investigating the incident.
